African Nguni Head

Stylish African Nguni head sculpture in various timber options.

Designed by John Vogel Design, Cape Town. 

Available in 3 sizes:

Large: approx 540 w x 600 ht x 150 d mm

Medium: approx 370 w x 430 ht x 70 d mm

Small: approx 180 w x 220 ht x 40 d mm

Colours: various options such as beautiful ash or iroko timber, in a number of oil finishings such as clear or white oil.

Large Nguni's also available with colour-dipped horns.
Can be used as a welcoming wall or coat hook or simply as beautiful decoration.

Known for their spectacularly coloured coats and resilience, Nguni cattle have become a symbol of abundance and the sweeping South African plains, and are well known for their spectacular long horns. John Vogel reinterprets the grass-grazing animal with the Nguni Head. Each wood sculpture is handcrafted at the designer’s Cape Town studio.

These leather pieces are entirely handcrafted by the dedicated ladies of Afrographic, a Cape Town based design studio and social enterprise. All their pieces are made by talented women from the townships of Cape Town, South Africa.

Paper Art and Photo Prints by Keri Muller

Keri Muller lives and works in Kalk Bay, close to Cape Town, South Africa. She is a talented maker of stuff.
She folds, glues and cuts paper and old books into artworks, traditional origami shapes and more abstract pieces. Collecting and hoarding abandoned objects and books and giving them another life through artworks forms the basis of much of her work.

Popup books and cards, delicate paper mobiles and a humorous range of sketch prints are all part of her affordable retail range of products. A rather energetic imagination contributes to her stories about funny ornament animals she rescues and creating whimsical drawings and words for print form a large part of her work as well.

Keri does work on commission for all types of writing projects be it travel or products related and does also do large scale installations often involving paper. This work is all done on request and she works closely with the client to produce what they would like whether it be for a publication, a new product, a corporate function, a wedding or a special gift. 

We are proud to be the only stockist for Keri's work in the Netherlands.

Bird Watcher

Co-designed by Warren Lewis, Porky Hefer's cool birdhouse acts as a deterrent for uninvited visitors as it can be mounted outside, either on a tree or against the wall.

IkStingkt is a conservation-conscious collaborative platform from SA by Nix Davies and Scott Irving that aims to include and interact with the everyday person through art, design products, conservation and education.

A total of 25% of the profit of each of their products goes directly into conservation and education.

Right now, the Rhinoceros is their focus. Later this year they will introduce other endangered animal design products to support specific conservation programs.

Currently, there is a life-size Rhino exhibition at Side Street Studios in Woodstock, Cape Town. The life-size Rhinos are part of a large-scale public artwork that raises the conscious awareness of the long-term effects of our actions as humans on the environment. Cactus Project

 A funky collection of 100% handcrocheted cactuses and succulents, designed by Projekt. Simply too cute!

Projekt, set up by creative talent Peta Becker is a skills training initiative based in Hout Bay, Cape Town. Projekt members live in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement and come from different parts of Southern Africa, bringing their own traditions to their work and style. Members mostly work with fine cotton and a very fine hook, creating scarves, jewellery and decorative items to meet the changing needs of the international market. Projekt is delighted to be collaborating with Heartworks to form Curious Room – a fresh initiative, where they can experiment with new materials and processes

The cacti and other little plants were proudly presented at this year's Design Indaba fair in Cape Town, SA.

You can choose from various dimensions, from tiny ones to extra large cactuses, and with or without flower!

Elle Deco SA, Spring 2012: '.. these curious-looking cacti from Projekt still have us smiling wide. These plush hand-knitted veld flowers by Peta Becker, owner and designer of Projekt, is another one of our Design Indaba favourites'.

The Curious Room in Woodstock is a new space curated by Margaret Woermann and Peta Becker for their experimental work. Invited craft producers, designer-makers and artisans are collaborating in exploratory and flexible ways. It’s also a great place for lovers of unique craft and design to buy or order special, unusual items. The lab was created as “an opportunity for collaboration”, say Margaret Woermann of Heartworks and Peta Becker of Projekt. “It’s an antidote to virtual online shopping, part of the slow movement. You can feast your eyes and soul upon extreme, one-off decorative and homeware objects.”

Set up in late 2011, the Curious Room was a hit when officially launched at the recent Design Indaba Expo.
