Cleverly designed stackable stool - 100 % handmade

New in our collection is the work of Cape Town photographer and furniture designer Xandre Kriel.

Xandre Kriel designs and makes his own art furniture ranging from high-concept, low-tech plywood benches and chairs to an ever-growing collection of sculptural pieces that appeal to a new generation of design collectors.

Each product is custom made in his workshop/studio in Woodstock, Cape Town and feature surprising detailsand multi-functionality.

Hatbox Sidetable

From a battered old hatbox to a one of a kind sidetable.

This dark olive green vintage hatbox has been recreated into a simple but one of a kind functional sidetable. With natural tapered timber legs, it also opens up to reveal a floral fabric interior which you can use to store any of your treasures!

Out House Stool

An old out house bucket from 1962 is transformed into a comfortable stool! With a stainless steel recessed base and an upholstered seat cushion, in soft purple velvet.

Tyred Chair

Original Tyred chair by Tyred Furniture in collaboration with Cape Town based artist Yameng Li. Part of a series of 10 original custom made chairs by South Africa's young, up & coming top designers. The chairs have been showcased at the Design Indaba Expo in 2010.

Tyred makes sustainable lifestyle furniture from the used mass amounts of tyres that have accumulated into towers of unusable waste and turns them into something chic and enjoyable, fun and durable. By taking used and old tyres, Tyred creates custom designed chairs, ottomans and tables that can be used indoors and outdoors.

While helping the environment, Tyred is also making a social impact by employing men with families and attest to hiring more men as the need arises.

Materials: Re-used car tyres, paint, wooden top

Beautiful stool inspired by natural leaf patterns by South African brand Abode. Designer Michelle creates fun, quirky yet functional homeware with a unique edge. All products are made locally using recycled mild steel and natural cane, a sustainable material.

All products are locally crafted by previously disadvantaged individuals or small businesses and manufactured using re-cycled and/or sustainable materials.

Concave shaped Jacaranda Stool - handmade in South Africa from beautiful Jacaranda wood.

Each stool has a unique pattern. Can be used as stool or as (bed)sidetable.

Made by Khumbulani Craft, a not-for-gain company with the purpose of contributing towards poverty alleviation and the promotion of small enterprise development through the design, production, marketing and sale of traditional and contemporary craft. 

The stools are made in selected indigenous and exotic woods e.g. jacaranda. (an indigenous Tree Planting Programme which aims to restock indigenous trees used by woodcarvers has been established).

Colour: natural jacaranda wood.

Size approx: 29 cm w x 43 cm h.
