    Beautifully woven grass lights, handmade by a rural women cooperation from Zimbabwe in cooperation with Heath Nash Studio.  Use with an energy saving bulb and add a warm natural glow to your home. The squids look even better when swimming in groups.

  • Bird Nest

    White recycled metal and natural cane. 

    Spring is in the air with this beautiful and highly original Bird Nest Lamp by South African brand Abode. Designer Michelle Petrie creates fun, quirky yet functional homeware with a unique edge. All products are made locally using recycled mild steel and natural cane, a sustainable material.

    All products are locally crafted by previously disadvantaged individuals or small businesses and manufactured using re-cycled and/or sustainable materials.

  • Lite

    Porky Hefer of Animal Farm has produced a range of fully recyclable lights called 'Lite'. The turned wooden bulbs in indigenous African hardwoods function as lampshades and house an eco friendly CFL bulb or LED light.  

    Can be hung from the ceiling in groups or individually. Can only use an energy saver bulb so it's lite on electricity. Is spun from wood rather than mass manufactured from steel, so it's lite on our environment. 

    Colour range: no stains are used, all the woods are their natural colour (there might be a light colour shift): 
    Obeche, Meranti, Mahogany, Kiaat, Walnut, Panga Panga

    Beautiful and original handmade chan .. eh candeliers by Magpie, a socially conscious art collective, founded in 1998 by designer Scott Hart and social entrepreneur Shane Petzer. It produces ornate light fittings, home décor and jewelry crafted from, among other things, recycled glass bottles, yoghurt containers, plastic, dog food cans, mosaic, bits of mirror, toys, charms and copper wire.

    Magpie’s contribution to development is channeled through the “Rooi Doppies Project” where they provide technical support to community income generation projects, crafters and civil society endeavours that focus on critical social issues, such as HIV/AIDS, Substance Abuse, Recycling and Environmental concerns.
    As well as funding the collection of recyclable material for their products they train crafters to produce their own waste based items. Rooi Doppies established a soup kitchen to feed the poor, runs an after school project which encourages children to do their own recycling and supports a craft manufacturing activity from which Magpie buy the output.

    Re-used cans, wire, beads and petals.

    Available in various colours, each one is funky and unique.

    In 2009 Two Magpie Regency Chandeliers were purchased by the interior decorator of president Obama and currently hang in the Obama family's private quarters of the White House.

    Terracotta - Natural clay beads - 60 cm diameter

    A beautiful terracotta chandelier composed of a myriad of hand crafted and unique beads made of clay from African soils and held together by a individually styled and hand made wire structure. A unique representation of African innovation, creativity and skillfull ingenuity.

    Designed and produced by Mud Studio, based in the eastern Free State of South Africa, in collaboration with the community in an attempt to uplift its peoples and provide employment in their rural based studio. Mud’s elegant and earthy designs have won much international acclaim. Mud Studios are committed to creating only handmade ceramics. The high unemployment figures in the area, it gives a special opportunity to support the local community. More and more people can be trained for positions.
